I know there have been a lot of posts about this new film, but this was my first time using it. Reviews have been hit and miss, a bit marmite, you love it or you hate it. Where do my opinions fall?
Well, I tried a roll in my Konica Autoreflex, which has the capability to switch to half-frame mid-roll. I thought I would get more shots for my bucks this way. I was tempted to set the camera to 100 or 160asa as I had read that would get better results. But in the end I decided to shoot it at box speed.
I took the set up to Liverpool after Chinese New Year, so lots of reds.
Here are the full frames.

Wow, look at those blues! But also look at that halation, on the dragon especially….but look at those blues!!
And here are the half frames which I took in Liverpool and Leeds.

So my opinion? I like it. I like it for blues and shadows. It is such a warm film that it seems to brighten up shadows.
I have another roll to use up so might use it on a dull day to see what the shadows look.
These are absolutely brilliant, Peggy! Like you said, the halations, the reds, the blues! I bought two rolls at the Photo Show, can’t wait for a hot sunny day for testing. I’m also going to be reading your blog on the camera you used ☺
If you want to do half frames, I have the H35N for you to borrow.
Impressive! If one shot Kodachrome 25 then ran the images thru Lightroom to further intensify the colors, this is what you’d likely get.
“Kodachrooooome, give me those nice bright colors ….”
Unfortunately, I never had the chance to shoot it 😞
Well, being a Certified Geezer does carry certain advantages (:>)
As a poor youth with a Bolsey many moons ago, acquiring enough money for a roll of the original Kodachrome (ASA 10) and the processing fee, was a task that required mowing a few lawns.
How many images would you get on a roll?
Typically 38 or 39. Then when I started “rolling my own” from 100 ft bulk rolls of b&w, I’d get 42 or 43. The B2 Bolsey is an underrated camera: Very well-built, and with a sharp and contrasty 44mm lens which is almost = the film diagonal. I’ve got a couple of these in the collection, and they work well, the shutter firing accurately on all speeds.
I have not heard of them and just looked online. They are from the USA, so no wonder I have never come across one.
Great shots, love the bow bridge shots. But wow lots of colour. Love it, seems sharp too, tho guess that’s lens and camera as much as anything. It just looks so crisp. Would love to see how it handles nature, trees grass etc. I reckon it would be a great landscape film….sunsets
oooh.
Thoo do think ASA 100 would have been better
Thank you, I have one roll left and will probably shoot that at 100asa…when the weather decides to brighten up a little.
I shot my first roll at 100 iso and sent it to analogue wonderland to be developed. Got my scans back and I quite like it. It’s a decent effort from Ilford and I’m just waiting for the Cherry Blossom to appear to shoot my second roll.
Nice, there is a bit of blossom around here…but no blue skies.
