I recently saw a post on Instagram about a little zine. I wrote to the poster and asked if I could buy a copy. He wrote back and said he would send me some free of charge, which I thought was too generous. So in return I sent him some of my zines. A nice little swap.
Dave also mentioned the small zines were part of a larger publication that had been featured on the Sunny 16 podcast which was created by The Photozine Collective. I knew a couple of the photographers featured in the group, so it made me even more interested.
After I had a good ‘ole listen to the podcast, I promptly bought the zine “Ambiguous” and here we are…a post about something I have read. I haven’t done one of these post for ages. I have read stuff of course, but I have forgotten to refer to it.
So how were the zines?
The little ones were great, surprisingly well printed.

I especially liked the bus triptych.
One of the other zines I received was a collection of panoramas. I really like that format, Josef Koudelka being one of my favourite photographers. He used that format to great effect. This zine contained subjects closer to my location.

Finally, there was the zine ‘Ambiguous’. Each of the photographers in the collective produced images based on their interpretation of the title. It was interesting to see the different approaches to the same adjective. But seeing as the word literally means “open to more than one interpretation; not having one obvious meaning” it was not surprising.

The zine has been made as a memorial to John Whitmore and any extra funds are being donated to Asthma+Lung UK. As such, I would rather you buy the zine than me post loads of sample photos here. I have made a very short video to give you a preview though.
I loved it. Thank you Dave and the rest of the collective.
The link I posted above gives you information about each of the ‘collectivees’ including their websites or Instagram accounts. Check them out.
Thank you so much Peggy and really glad you liked them, particularly Ambiguous which is a project very dear to me. Here’s to the next swap!
Thank you, Peggy, it was an honour to be a part of the Ambiguous Zine and long may our collective continue.
I did. I might get the other two publications at some point.
