Hello and Welcome 2022

I didn’t make any plans for 2021 and I am now glad about that after another wonderful year. At the end of 2019 I wrote I would sell most of my cameras, that didn’t happen then or now. In 2021 did get covid like many of us, I have been in the same job for a while and I am enjoying it. I am not going to publish stats for this blog or the most popular posts as this blog is basically for me. It is a way to catalogue the cameras I have tried and in that way, I can look back on places I have been and people I have met.

So what about 2022, am I ready to make plans now? Yes, to a certain extent.

I have always struggled to plan for the future, I blame that on coming close to death a few times in my life. I had a very nasty motorbike accident when I was 18 which left me unable to walk without crutches for months, and currently with a limp on cold days. I was also in Japan when the 3/11 earthquake hit. Volunteering in the affected area further affected my outlook on life. These and other incidents have left me with an attitude of – if I want to do something I should do it now, if I want to buy something I should buy it now. You never know what is around the corner. BUT neither of those attitudes lets me plan for the future…or lose weight very easily for that matter.

So instead of making plans, I have made some options I would like to explore…

  • Make a few more zines and prints – Not just digital ones, but physical ones. To that end I have already made a new one, “Fauna”. My last zine was printed by Maxim. This time I have decided to print on demand using my Canon Pixma Pro 100. I bought it to print my own stuff, but I rarely do. It is a fantastic printer and I should make better use of it. That being said, I have also decided to print a limited number of photos too. More details will be available on the “Zines and Prints” page which I am about to create.
  • I will not buy any cameras this year, none. I can gain cameras by swapping or by borrowing, but I will not buy one…let’s see how long that lasts. I have all the cameras I will ever need. I have some great rangefinders, SLRs, TLRs, folding ones, instant ones, toys. I also have the lenses to make them work. I simple don’t need any more and have no space for them. I don’t have thousands or even hundred like some collectors. But I am not really a collector. I like to use cameras. I have a box of cameras I haven’t used yet or added to this blog so there will be a few more reviews for a while.
  • To go along with the zines and prints, I want to complete more photo based projects.

And that’s it. Not a lot of options to work towards and I have already made a start on one. The ‘not buying cameras’ is something I don’t have to work towards, but something I have to just not do.

Let’s see how all that works out.

I tell myself almost daily that I don’t need more cameras, but I’m so useless at sticking to it. We’ll have to set up some swaps 😁

I feel sorry for all the poor cameras, alone and un-bought because of heartless decisions like these. Please purchase at least a few in 2022.

Well, that doesn’t help me at all 🙂 I have a box of about 10 to try so I have a few already.

Good plan. I’ll wager a shot of the single malt of your choice, neat, that you find you cannot stick to it!
