My Top Nine and Favourites Photos 2021

Merry Christmas Everyone 🙂

I tried and tried to get my Instagram top nine and every time I tried the website just said….it will take ten minutes. So for giggles, I left my computer locked open overnight and still, nothing appeared. What to do? Well, manually go back through the year and do it myself. It actually didn’t take as long as I thought. I used the web version of Instagram which tells you the number of likes when you hover over it. Then I opened any over a certain amount in a new tab, swapping out lower numbers until I was left with a selection of 9 photos.

Actually, I did manage to get a result from one of the automated sites, but it was absolutely clear the selection algorithm they had wasn’t working properly. They chose photos that I knew did not have many likes. Not that likes are important, but it is just interesting to see what the internet peeps have deemed to click on throughout the year.

So without further ado here are my top nine posts on Instagram for 2021.

I do like the selection some are in my own personal top nine for the year.

While looking back at my Instagram feed, I also tabbed out my favourites for the year. This year each one was taken on a different camera, most of them being new to me. That means I hadn’t used them before taking this particular photo. Here they are, in no particular order.

Canon T90 – Orwo N74
Chinon CM7 – Kodak 200 converted to monochrome
Konica Autoreflex – Kodak Tri-x 400 pushed to 3200
La Sardina Cubic – Ilford FP4
Mamiya C2 – Fomapan 200
Olympus OM4 – Cinestill 800T
Panasonic DMC FS11 – Infrared Converted
Zeiss Ikon Nettar 518 – Orwo 100
Zenit 12s – Lomography 400

Out of all these photos, only one is digital and that one wasn’t taken with my phone. I am not putting phone photos down, I love my phone camera, but I have made more of an effort to carry a camera with me. I think it also shows how many photos I have taken on film this year. My selection contains a lot more portraits this year, I have tried to take more of those recently.

So merry Christmas to one and all, and a happy new year. I am not sure I will be posting anything in the interim…I have received a couple of bottles of whiskey for Xmas 😉

Thank you for your continuing great blog Peggy. What lens did you use to get the swirley bokeh with the Zenit 12? Is it a Helios by any chance?
I always carry a camera with me…just in case…my phone camera if fine it’s just not the same.

Yes a helios, very noticeable aren’t they. And exactly, phone cameras are fine, but seem to automatically HDR everything.

PS Just to add my digital carry camera is the Canon Powershot G11…what a machine! It’s like having a mini dslr in my hands. I’m a bit of a fan of the G range tho as I also have the G3 and G6.

I have the G5, the original one. They are amazing. I don’t use mine, but it was my first real digital camera. I always look at second hand Gs, then remind myself I don’t need it.
